One of the enjoyable things about having a blog is the ability to see where some of the people who read it come from.  WordPress  calls it Referrers…it lists web pages which linked back to one’s blog.  Enough Non-Sense  sees all kind of off-the-wall web sites that for one reason or another feel a need to link here.  So, when I noticed traffic from a site starting with http://michfest.com/ I followed the link and came to the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival Discussion Forum – Exactly whose “transitioning”… .  I found a couple of essays from Enough Non-Sense to be the focus of a commenter named Gynophile.  You can follow the link and read if you like.

Neither myself nor Enough Non-Sense  has ever mentioned nor commented on the MWMF either here or on another blog.  The reason should be pretty obvious: it’s insignificant.  Nothing the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival  has done, is doing, or will ever be doing holds any interest to me at all, nor 99.99 percent of the rest of the planet.  I have many interests and there are a lot of things I would like to do one day, but spending any amount of time at any of their intensive workshops would not be one of them.  In fact, attending even an hour, much less a week, with a bunch of butt-ugly, dirty, lesbian-centric, feminist females doing anything is never likely to be on high on my “to do”  list.

But…if one day I should decide to attend MWMF, they’ll never know it.  And be truthful, Gynophile, my dear little greasy, motorcycle-smelling dyke, isn’t that what really  bothers you?

  1. MWMF is not significant in ether feminism or mainstream woman’s issues.
What it does seem to be is the equivalent to Palm Springs for the gay man, a Disneyland for lesbian hyper feminists. This brings to mind an old USENET thread, some here may remember it was legendary both in it’s silliness and length.

They seem to think some of us who are of surgical experience are freaks, perhaps they should take a long look in the mirror on a morning when they are sober and not hung over.

I have never had enough curiosity to look up the site up, however I have wondered what that side of the social bell curve was like, thanks for saving me the trouble to Google them, so many other things to track down you know :)
    Thanks.

So, no misogyny or homophobia in that then… but hey, at least they’re actually birth female ;)

  5. takes a bow … :)

  6. Actually, on reading over some of the comments on that blog I don’t find myself in dissagreement with many of them .. take this one from someone called Char ..

“I want to be clear here – I believe that there are legitimate instances of TG/TS. I believe they are extremely rare. I think the degree that this obsession with TG/TS has overrun our lesbian and gay community, and the whiny victim stance in society, has arisen from deeper problems and issues that this stupid and dangerous fad has been created to mask. The main goal of this group is to seek sympathy for their victimhood and to exercise their over-blown sense of entitlement “

I mean, are we not saying the same thing ?

  7. Leigh;
That is a very apt comment.
And yes we have been saying that for sometime now.

    :)

Sorry I didn’t reply sooner I have been busy lately.

    Take care

“my dear little greasy, motorcycle-smelling dyke”

    This is beyond ugly.

I ended up here following the trail from another MWMF thread started by dirtywhiteboi. I was really hoping that she had taken stuff out of context, distorted, etc. as she clearly is out to vilify transsexual women at any cost, and let me make it clear that I am in NO way a fan of hers, or of the other self-important zealots that form this “New Radical Lesbian Feminist Front” of hers.

But I have to say that I’m really appalled at seeing lesbophobic and off-colour racist-leaning slurs used by sisters, speaking as a woman of history who is also lesbian. Please don’t think I don’t understand the anger, I do. But dwb and her allies are a tiny, fringe splinter group within the lesbian community today. Many older lesbians who were part of the second wave movement have renounced the rabid identity politics of those days, including the Raymond/Greer “transsexuals are men acting as agents of patriarchy, infiltrating the feminist movement and contaminating our precious bodily fluids” school of thinking. Some have seen friends trashed or been hurt themselves by accusations of not being “lesbian enough” (if they ever dated men) or finding themselves on the margins for not towing the party line for any reason. It’s mostly a few younger women reacting against the TG and queer-theory-influenced Third Wave who are trying to “purify” the community.

You’ll also notice they’re not just anti-trans, but openly and brazenly accuse anyone whose sexuality doesn’t meet their narrow real-lesbian acid test of being a “fucked-up straight woman”. These women aren’t winning friends and allies except among the few who already feel that way. They’ve made the forum such a hostile place that very few festies post there anymore. If you’ll check some of the recent threads, you’ll see that some of the wimmin they’re trashing are starting to stand up against them. If you’ve read the forum carefully you know that one longtime poster (Cicely) has written letters to the Festival office to have them banned for TOS violations. To date it doesn’t seem that any action has been taken, but at least someone tried, and who knows, maybe the office will act eventually.

Please direct your anger at the INDIVIDUALS who deserve it and not at lesbians as a group. We are not the enemy. Some of us are sisters, or at least I hope so, but this crap makes me ashamed.
