Surfing the net, one can find all kinds of advocacy for transgender related  issues.  Of course, the advocates for these transgender related  issues are gay, lesbian, and bisexual transgender  activists.  To the best of my knowledge, there is not one prominent out and proud trans activist whose advocacy is centered strictly on heterosexual classic/true transsexual issues…not one.  If anyone knows of a prominent or even obscure trans activist whose advocacy is centered on heterosexual classic/true transsexual issues please let me know.  There may be one, but after years on the net I have never come across him or her.

It should not be surprising that the homosexual/bisexual trans activist advocate for issues under the banner of the GLBT.  And, that advocacy invariably revolves around just two issues, both of which are GLB related.  Those two issues are discrimination  and same-sex marriage.  Though discrimination is somewhat of a concern to some heterosexual classic/true transsexuals, for the most part the tens and tens of thousands of heterosexual, post operative, classic/true transsexuals have their surgery and disappear into the mainstream generally not affected.  Heterosexual, post operative, classic/true transsexuals, by definition, are not involved in same-sex relationships so for us, whether we support same-sex marriage or not, that issue is not  at the top of our list either…if it’s on it at all.

Sexual orientation…is an issue of sexuality…homosexual, heterosexual, or bisexual.

Gender…is an issue of gender…male, female, and, to some, the intersexed.

Though there may be a few exceptions (there are some who claim they don’t identify as either gender) virtually everyone, even the vast majority of the intersexed, solidly identify as either male or female.  The entire universe is subject to singularities and exceptions; I am not addressing those few who don’t identify as either male or female.  But, please keep in mind that exceptions are not the rule…just aberrations to the norm.  And, don’t even try to go to the “what is normal”  argument.  I can define normal and know it when I see it…if you are reading this and can’t distinguish normal from abnormal then you have my sympathies.

Though I really haven’t given it much thought, it appears from every indication that one’s sexual orientation is innate, certainly homosexuals for the most part will tell you they were born gay or lesbian.  As well, every statistic points to the fact that a huge percentage of so-called straight people have had at least some homosexual experience  at one time or another in their life.  Conversely, many men who identify as died-in-the-wool gay have sex with females…the same can be said for lesbians and sex with men.  So, innate or not, sexual orientation and the attraction men and women have for either the opposite sex or the same sex has consistently been proven to be in flux…it changes.  Core gender identity does not.

Much has been written on the issue of men in women’s spaces but perhaps none more so than in the ongoing debate over pre-ops in women’s bathrooms, change areas, showers, etc.

At the onset, let me say its a dead issue with me…almost.  Like me, I would have to think that every post op that ever lived ended up in a female restroom during their transition and prior to GRS.  One argument one sees over and over on the issue - one that I agree with – is that women’s restrooms have stalls and, whether pre-op, post-op, or GG, we go into the restroom, close the stall door, do our business, wash our hands, maybe check our hair or make-up…and then leave.  Suffice to say, there is not  a lot of interaction between women when it comes to us using public restrooms.  The fact of the matter is that aside from the occasional simple smile and the eye contact of an unspoken greeting, unless one actually knows the other woman they might meet up with in the restroom, there is virtually no interaction at all.  So, nope, if the pre-op has the nerve and can pass well enough to make it into the bathroom without the few GGs they will even come into contact with there screaming bloody murder I have no bone to pick in that feast at all.

I was drawn to this piece in the Calgary Herald entitled Man, oh man! Get that guy out of the girl’s room, by Nigel Hannaford.

Over at Women Born Transsexual, I was asked this question:

“Show me something you have done?”

So, I answered (in part):

“What have I done? With regards to anything even vaguely related to gender…absolutely nothing. Nor do I intend to.”

And, that is the truth…I’m most proud of it, too.

I’ve told this story before.
